HERE'S THE DIRT       By Anne Abbey

December 6, 2012

The December Princeville Garden Club potluck meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. at the Lillie M. Evans Library.  Our guest, Fred Reiner, provided the blessing for our gathering.  As usual there were lots of delicious offerings such as pasta salad, Christmas jello, broccoli casserole, baked beans, beef and noodles, cauliflower and broccoli salad (call me for recipes), and too many others to mention.

Members were asked to relate their favorite Christmas cookie or family tradition.  The traditions were as varied as the members, but springerle seemed to be a favorite cookie, especially when eaten with hot chocolate!

Our hostesses for the evening were Martha Macy, Cathie Maguire and Anne Abbey.  Cathie had some delicious Wassail.

TREASURER'S REPORT - Treasurer, Cathie Maguire reported expenses of $100 for the Wyoming Christmas Baskets and $100 for the Heart of Prince holiday baskets.

NEW BUSINESS - Members were asked to be thinking of money making projects of 2013 and reminded that elections will be held in June.  New faces would be welcome.

MISCELLANEOUS - Gift certificates were given to Ruthie Whitledge and Helen Gualandi for opening and setting up the library for the Garden Club meetings during the winter months.

DOOR PRIZE - Each Club member in attendance received a door prize of either a poinsettia, tree ornament from Luthy, or an original by Lucy Zook.  Kenney Hohenberry also provided a special prize from Merkle Tree Farm won by Darlene Reiner.

JANUARY MEETING - THERE WILL BE NO JANUARY MEETING.

FEBRUARY MEETING - The February meeting will be held February 7, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lillie M. Evans Library.  Our program will be Ashley Simper, Community/Outpatient Dietitian presenting Tapas - Small Plates, Big Flavor.

Guests are always welcome.

THOUGHT OF THE MONTH - "When we recall Christmas past, we usually find that the simplest things - not the great occasions - give off the greatest glow of happiness." Bob Hope
