Watch carefully for pedestrians.  Share the road safely.  Be aware of street closures.   The PCA appreciates your patience while the streets are  closed due to events and the carnival. On the morning of Saturday, June 22, a Tractor Drive will be held and tractors will be parked on Santa Fe Street from the Country Feed and Supplies on down to the end of Stevens Square.  Also the Vendor Fair (8am-4pm) will be happening on Main Street between Walnut and Santa Fe (across from Stevens Square)   Stop by the PCA Tent in Stevens Square during Heritage Days. PCA has 175th Commemorative Books, Commemorative Plates, and the  Taste of Princeville Cookbooks for sale.                                                                                                                                                                     Taste of Princeville Cookbook A Taste of Princeville Cookbooks are a wonderful gift idea!    The recipes in this cookbook come from current and former community members of Princeville.  Numerous recipes were also submitted in memory of family members.    A Taste of Princeville Cookbook ~ $15.00  All proceeds of the cookbook benefit the   Princeville Heritage Museum.    The 175th Commemorative Books of Princeville are also available.  The cost of the Commemorative Books is $10.00.  The sale of these books benefit the  Princeville Civic Association.    Both books make great gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, or special occasions. They are available at  the Princeville Heritage Museum.    You can also Click Here To Download Book Order Form.         IMPORTANT NOTICE!!  VILLAGE OF PRINCEVILLE RESIDENTS The Village of Princeville will be doing maintenance on our 100,000 gallon water storage tank.  The anticipated date of construction will be June 24 - 29.  The water at this time will not be reverse osmosis treated water.  It will still be safe to drink and use.  Please visit the Village website at princeville.org to receive updates.  If there are any questions,  please contact Chad Gardner @ 309.385.4765. Akron Princeville Fire Department Needs Volunteers!! Have you ever thought about being a volunteer firefighter? Do you live and or work in Princeville? Now would be the time that you turn that thought of volunteering into a reality. The Akron-Princeville Fire Dept is accepting applications for volunteers. We can not provide top notch service without people to respond. Although we have an immediate need for daytime volunteers, all applications will be considered. Village of Princeville Residents:   It is unlawful for anyone to permit any weeds, grass or plants, or other than trees, bushes, flowers, or other ornamental plants to grow to a height exceeding eight inches anywhere in the Village.  Any such plants or weeds exceeding such height are declared to be a nuisance.  per village ordinance 8.24.020     Burning of lawn waste is allowed on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Our hostesses for the evening were Mary Arnold and Jurretta Huffman.   TREASURER'S REPORT - Cathie Maguire reported expenses of $41.24 for door prizes, and a deposit of $618.50 from the Plant Sale. OLD BUSINESS - Our Plant Sale which was held on May 18 in Stephens Park was a success.  $618.50 was made this year - only $40 less than last!  There was a large variety of plants and I believe all customers left happy. Garden Clean-up before Heritage Days will be June 17 at 6:00. NEW BUSINESS - Membership dues of $5.00 are due.  You may forward your dues to Cathie Maguire at17610 N. Mangold Rd. , Edelstein , IL  61526 . A committee has been formed to select officers for the upcoming term.  Anyone interested in serving on this committee or as an officer, please contact one of the current officers. MISCELLANEOUS - If you find brown spots on your iris leaves, there is a good possibility you have iris borers which will eventually destroy your plant.  If you find the spots, remove the leaves and destroy (not in compost pile).  If the borer reaches the rhizomes they become mushy and rotten.  Remove!! DOOR PRIZE - Our door prize consisting of a tote bag and towel was won by our guest and new member Lisa Ransom.  Congratulations and enjoy! JULY MEETING - As the first Thursday in July is a holiday, the July meeting will be held on July 11 in Jane Stoecker's Garden, 103 E. North St. (Rte 91 & North St.), Princeville at 6:00 p.m. with the meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. The hostesses will be Jane Stoecker and Cherri Watkins. Guests are always welcome. Heritage Days is just days away! Heritage Days 2012 will take place June 21-24. This year marks the 175th Anniversary of Princeville and will also be celebrated along with Heritage Days! Be sure to come out to the park and enjoy dinner provided by the Lions Club, nightly main stage entertainment, and fun activities for the kids! Make sure to get your advanced tickets for the Carnival! Wristbands will be available for Sunday's Heritage Days Activities. Lillie M. Evans Library Tech Help and Walking Program

Drop-In Tech Help EVERY MONDAY IN JUNE 10am-noon Are you new to computers and have lots of questions still left unanswered?  Join us at the Lillie M. Evans Library on Mondays during June for individual assistance.  From 10-noon we will be offering a series of open lab times where anyone can drop in to ask questions or get lessons on computers or technology.  Open labs are on Mondays from 10-noon in the month of June (June 4, 11, 18, 25).  Appointments are not necessary; just stop in anytime between 10am-12pm on Mondays.  Laptops will be set-up in the meeting room or bring your own device-we'd love to see you there! Princeville Walks 2012 May 29th-July 27th Join us May 29th - July 27th and see how far Princeville can walk!  Register free at the LME Library or online through the library's website at http://lmelibrary.org.  You record your own steps and mileage and then report them to us. Walk, jog, run, bike and get moving; it all counts! Check out Purdue University's site at http://www.purdue.edu/walktothemoon/activities.html to convert other activities into steps. You can join us anytime starting May 29th. Check in at the library at your convenience to have your mileage added to the total throughout the program.

Recycle Your Ink Cartridges Friends of the LME Library

The Friends of the Lillie M. Evans Library are now collecting empty inkjet cartridges for recycling. We receive up to $4.00 for each cartridge recycled. Cartridges can be deposited in our collection bin at the Lillie M. Evans Library in Princeville. Simply place your old cartridge in a plastic sandwich bag and deposit it in our collection bin. Most businesses simply throw their empty cartridges in the garbage so check at work to see if they would donate their would be garbage. The acceptable cartridges are listed below. NOTE:  Epson cartridges are now being accepted for recycling but are NOT paid for. No large laser cartridges are accepted with this program and will not fit through the holes on our collection box. In addition to raising money for Friends of the Lillie M. Evans Library, recycling inkjet cartridges has a positive impact on the environment. Consider the following: Nearly 1 million inkjets are thrown into our landfills everyday. Less than 5% of the cartridges produced are recycled. It takes 1000 years for the plastic to decompose.  Thanks for assisting our Friends and our Library through this program!  Our next Friends meeting will be Monday, July 9 at 4pm in the library.  Please watch the LME Library website at http://lmelibrary.org  for more details.
