June Meeting
Princeville Garden Club
HERE'S THE DIRT       By Anne Abbey

June 6, 2013

The June meeting of the Princeville Garden Club was held in Judy Sutherland's gardens.  In addition to her rose garden, Judy also has tropical, sun and shade gardens.  There were so many things to see and enjoy.  We had three gu
ests at our meeting, Lisa Ransom, Sharon Fulton and Fred Reiner; all of whom became new members!  Welcome to our group.

Our hostesses for the evening were Mary Arnold and Jurretta Huffman.

TREASURER'S REPORT - Cathie Maguire reported expenses of $41.24 for door prizes, and a deposit of $618.50 from the Plant Sale.

OLD BUSINESS - Our Plant Sale which was held on May 18 in Stephens Park was a success.  $618.50 was made this year - only $40 less than last!  There was a large variety of plants and I believe all customers left happy.

Garden Clean-up before Heritage Days will be June 17 at 6:00.

NEW BUSINESS - Membership dues of $5.00 are due.  You may forward your dues to Cathie Maguire at17610 N. Mangold Rd. , Edelstein , IL  61526 .

A committee has been formed to select officers for the upcoming term.  Anyone interested in serving on this committee or as an officer, please contact one of the current officers.

MISCELLANEOUS - If you find brown spots on your iris leaves, there is a good possibility you have iris borers which will eventually destroy your plant.  If you find the spots, remove the leaves and destroy (not in compost pile).  If the borer reaches the rhizomes they become mushy and rotten.  Remove!!

DOOR PRIZE - Our door prize consisting of a tote bag and towel was won by our guest and new member Lisa Ransom.  Congratulations and enjoy!

JULY MEETING - As the first Thursday in July is a holiday, the July meeting will be held on July 11 in Jane Stoecker's Garden, 103 E. North St. (Rte 91 & North St.), Princeville at 6:00 p.m. with the meeting starting at 6:30 p.m.

The hostesses will be Jane Stoecker and Cherri Watkins.

Guests are always welcome.

THOUGHT OF THE MONTH - "Every year it seems to me I hear complaints about spring.  It is either "late" or "unusually cold" "abnormally dry" or "fantastically wet," for no one is every willing to admit that there is no such thing as a normal spring."  Thalassa Caruso

Electronics Recycling

As of January 1, 2012, the State of Illinois has prohibited many electronics from being placed in the landfills.  This means you must recycle your old electronics instead of placing them at the curb.  This includes televisions, monitors, printers, scanners, computers, keyboards, mice, fax machines, VCRs, DVD players, CD players, video game consoles, cell phones and much more.

Locally, you have options to recycle your electronics including Eagle Recycling, 510 SE Industrial Ave., Galva and Goodwill Industries in Peoria.  For more information:
